Autumn Skin Reset: How to Repair Your Skin After Summer
As we head into autumn, you might notice your skin suddenly feels a little different. Maybe it’s looking duller than usual, feeling dehydrated or more sensitive, or perhaps pigmentation and congestion seem more noticeable after the summer months.

September is actually one of my favourite times of year to reassess the skin. Rather than jumping straight into stronger treatments and lots of active products, I always look at what your skin actually needs first.
At Bare & Glow Skin in Ripon, my approach is simple: results-driven, barrier-first and never over-treated.
So, is it time for an autumn skin reset?
What happens to our skin over summer?
Even if you’ve been good with your SPF, your skin has still spent months dealing with increased UV exposure, heat, sweat, holidays, air conditioning and changes to your normal routine.
By the end of summer, you might start noticing:
Dehydration or tightness
Dull or lacklustre skin
Increased pigmentation or uneven skin tone
Rough or uneven texture
Congestion and breakouts
Increased sensitivity
A weakened skin barrier
This doesn’t necessarily mean your skin needs an aggressive treatment. Sometimes, the best place to start is simply restoring hydration and supporting the skin barrier.
Why autumn is the perfect time to focus on your skin
Autumn gives us a great opportunity to reassess your skincare routine and start working towards longer-term skin goals.
As we move away from the height of summer, treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels can become a bigger focus for clients wanting to work on concerns including pigmentation, uneven texture, acne scarring and signs of skin ageing.
But treatment should always be chosen according to your individual skin.
If your barrier is compromised, for example, we’re going to work on repairing that first rather than immediately reaching for a peel or microneedling treatment.

Healthy skin comes first.
What should you change in your autumn skincare routine?
You don’t necessarily need to completely overhaul your bathroom cabinet as soon as September arrives.
Instead, pay attention to how your skin feels.
As the weather becomes cooler and central heating starts creeping back on, you may find that your skin needs a little more hydration and barrier support.
A good autumn routine might include a gentle cleanser, hydrating ingredients, a moisturiser suitable for your skin type and, of course, SPF every day.
Yes — even in Yorkshire in autumn!
If you’ve reduced stronger active ingredients during summer, these may also be gradually reintroduced where appropriate. More isn’t always better, though. Using too many acids, retinoids and exfoliating products can quickly leave the skin irritated and compromised.
Which facial should I have this autumn?
This completely depends on your skin, which is why I don’t believe in giving everybody the same facial.
Here are a few of the treatments I offer at Bare & Glow Skin, Ripon, and when I might recommend them.
Barrier Repair Facial
If your skin feels dry, sensitive, irritated or generally unhappy after summer, this can be the perfect place to start.
Rather than pushing the skin harder, we’re focusing on calming, hydrating and supporting it so that we can build a healthier foundation before progressing onto more advanced treatments if needed.
Hydrofacial
If your main concerns are dehydration, congestion and dullness, a Hydrofacial can be a lovely autumn reset.
It’s ideal when you want that fresh, hydrated glow while also giving the skin a thorough cleanse.

Microneedling
Autumn is a great time to start thinking about a course of microneedling in Ripon if you’re looking for more progressive skin results.
Microneedling can be used to improve the appearance of concerns such as acne scarring, uneven texture, fine lines and overall skin quality by stimulating the skin’s natural repair processes and collagen production.
It’s not about completely changing your skin overnight. We’re working with the skin over time to encourage healthier, stronger-looking skin.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels aren’t about making your face peel off!
Different acids and formulations can be selected depending on what we’re trying to achieve. They can be particularly useful when working on concerns such as congestion, uneven texture, dullness and pigmentation.
Again, stronger isn’t automatically better. The right peel for your skin is much more important than choosing the most aggressive option.
You don’t need to attack your skin to get results
One of the biggest things I want clients to understand is that achieving results doesn’t mean constantly stripping, peeling or irritating the skin.
Your skin barrier plays an incredibly important role in keeping your skin healthy.
That’s why at Bare & Glow, advanced treatments and skin health aren’t two separate things.
We can work towards visible results while still respecting your skin.
Sometimes that means microneedling or a peel.
Sometimes it means putting the actives down and concentrating on hydration and barrier repair.
And sometimes you just want an hour to switch off, have your skin looked after and leave feeling like yourself again.
All of those are completely valid reasons to book a facial.
Ready for your autumn skin reset?
If summer has left your skin feeling dull, dehydrated, congested or just a little out of sorts, September is the perfect time to give it some attention.
You don’t need to know which treatment you need before you book.
Come in, tell me what’s bothering you about your skin and we can decide together what will be most beneficial — whether that’s barrier support, hydration or starting a longer-term treatment plan.
